White Wine of the Week
Bodegas Ontañón
Contrebia
Colección Insólitos
Rioja Tempranillo Blanco
Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $14.96
100% Tempranillo Blanco (Rioja DO)
What It Is:
This wine is a white wine made from Tempranillo Blanco, a naturally occurring white mutation of the Tempranillo grape, discovered in Rioja in 1980. There aren’t a bunch of this type of wine. This one is Bodegas Ontañon’s version made from organic Tempranillo Blanco.
Why We Like It:
One, it’s just fun to try a new grape. Two, it’s a white whose acid is evenly balanced with its fruit. It’s a great wine to pair with a light salad or cheese. You could also get a red Rioja Tempranillo and taste them back to back.
Red Wine of the Week
Domaine des Pasquiers
Côtes du Rhône Rouge
Normally $15.99 /
Now on Sale for $12.96
75% Grenache, 25% Syrah (Côtes du Rhône AOC)
How It’s Made:
Organically farming in light soils on the edge of the slopes of Sablet, Domaine des Pasquiers removes the stems of these grapes before fermenting them in concrete tanks for 10-15 days. After letting the grapes also go through malolactic fermentation, they age the wine for three months before bottling.
Why We Like It:
This red is a clean, light-bodied Côtes du Rhône that is a great fall wine — the perfect bridge between the chillable reds you’ve been drinking this summer and the heavier reds to come.
Beer of the Week
Weihenstephaner
Festbier
Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (11.3 oz bottle six-pack)
Festbier (5.8% ABV)
How It’s Made:
Though Märzen Lagers are the classic beer style of Oktoberfest, years ago breweries stated brewing a lighter, golden option — the Festbier. This is the version from classic Bavarian brewery Weihenstephan State Brewery, their annual offering for Oktoberfest … which is going on this week!
Why We Like It:
Clean, refreshing, with a touch of breadiness … what’s not to like here? Heck, it’s Weihenstephan. If they’ve ever made a bad beer, we haven’t found it.
