White Wine of the Week

Château de Vaux
Les Gryphées
Moselle Blanc

Normally $21.99 /
Now on Sale for $17.96
50% Auxerrois, 20% Muller Thürgau, 20% Pinot-Gris, 10% Gewurztraminer (Moselle DOC)

How It’s Made:

The Moselle wine region is in northeastern France, following the Moselle River (“Mosel” in German) near the borders of Germany and Luxembourg. Château de Vaux takes its grapes, biodynamically grown in clay-limestone soils, on rocky hillside terraces along the river. They ferment each of the grapes separately in stainless steel and then blend the resultant wines together.

Why We Like It:

It’s got the bright fruit that you’d expect from northeastern France / near Germany and also has a quiet minerality running through it. The acid is softer than you’d expect, but the minerality provides such an apt foundation that the wine doesn’t lack for structure. It’s the French experience you hope for, accessible but still sophisticated.

Red Wine of the Week

Yalumba
The Y Series
Shiraz Viognier

Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96

95% Shiraz (Syrah), 5% Viognier (South Australia region)

How It’s Made:

Yalumba pulls the grapes for this full-flavored but light-bodied red from various vineyards throughout South Australia. After pressing, they put the grapes in stainless steel and leave them on their skins until the wild yeasts begin fermentation. They allow them to go through malolactic fermentation and then age the resultant wine in stainless steel as well.

Why We Like It:

Whether it’s the short time on the skins, the touch of Viognier, or both, this red is a Shiraz with the edges smoothed. You still get that Shiraz taste but without the rustic tannins that you might be used to from Australia’s favorite red. It’s full of fruit, and fun. Have it at room temperature or just a tad colder.

Beer of the Week

Starr Hill
Sticky Thump
Dank Double IPA

Normally $13.99 /
Now on Sale for $12.96 (16 oz can four-pack)
Double IPA (8.5% ABV)

How It’s Made:

We’re not sure. Starr Hill doesn’t say. They just say it’s “dank and delicious.”

Why We Like It:

So Starr Hill’s regular IPA, the Northern Lights, is just totally solid, drinkable IPA — smooth on the first sip, with piney, resiny hoppiness that builds as you continue to drink it. The Sticky Thump is like the Northern Lights’ danker, bigger sibling. It still starts smooth. If you’re expecting it to slap you across the face with the first taste, it ain’t like that. The dankness ramps up on a slow build that never gets to be too much.
