Red Wine of the Week
Yalumba
The Y Series
Shiraz Viognier
Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96
95% Shiraz (Syrah), 5% Viognier (South Australia region)
How It’s Made:
Yalumba pulls the grapes for this full-flavored but light-bodied red from various vineyards throughout South Australia. After pressing, they put the grapes in stainless steel and leave them on their skins until the wild yeasts begin fermentation. They allow them to go through malolactic fermentation and then age the resultant wine in stainless steel as well.
Why We Like It:
Whether it’s the short time on the skins, the touch of Viognier, or both, this red is a Shiraz with the edges smoothed. You still get that Shiraz taste but without the rustic tannins that you might be used to from Australia’s favorite red. It’s full of fruit, and fun. Have it at room temperature or just a tad colder.
White Wine of the Week
Weingut Weninger
Sopron Fehérburgundi
Normally $28.99 /
Now on Sale for $19.96
100% Fehérburgundi (Pinot Blanc) (Sorpon region)
How It’s Made:
Though biodynamic Austrian winemaker Franz Weninger is based in the Neusiedlersee, he also holds vineyards across the border in Sopron, in Hungary. That’s where he grows the Fehérburgundi (a.k.a. Pinot Blanc) grapes for this natural white.
Why We Like It:
Featuring grapes grown out of slate soils, this wine has a vibrant minerality to it. That minerality mixes with a bright acidity and tight salinity. Just a hint of spritz is the cherry on top of this elegant, zesty, salty, citrusy white.
Beer of the Week
Tripping Animals / Zillicoah
Rivers and Roots
Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16 oz can four-pack)
Hoppy Wheat Ale (4.2% ABV)
How It’s Made:
This beer is a collaboration between Tripping Animals Brewing in Miami, FL and Zillicoah Beer Company in Woodfin, NC. They take more care making this wheat ale than any other wheat ale you’ve had in a long time. As they delicately bitter it with Citra Cryohops, they condition it with orange peel, chamomile, and coriander. After that, they add a touch of Mangrove honey.
Why We Like It:
Just looking at this beer you’re going to want to throw it down like good wheat ale. However, don’t quaff this sucker; it’s a sipping beer, an end of your day beer. Go ahead and get it cold but not “Pilsner” cold, then take your time, and all the quiet little notes that are swimming around in it present themselves. This is a beer that grew on us more and more with each sip.
