Domaine de la Bergerie has been a family estate since 1964 when Marie-Scholastique Horeau first purchased it. A winemaker from a winemaking family, Horeau began a legacy that her great-granddaughters, Anne and Marie Guégniard, continue today. The Guégniard sisters oversee 27 hectares of vineyards (most of them organic), planted in dark soils, the majority of which is schist bedrock, giving their part of Anjou its name — “Anjou Noir.” Their main white grape is, not surprisingly, the main white grape of Anjou, Chenin Blanc.

The Sous La Tonnelle (“Under the Arbor”) is Bergerie’s only Chenin Blanc made from grapes taken from different vineyard plots with different soil types. They ferment the organic grapes with indigenous yeasts and then age the wine in vats for six months. One of our goto wines, the Sous la Tonnelle has fresh yet lush fruit with hints of kiwi and lime.
