New England Style IPA

In the early teens, Andrew Burman, Matt Monahan, and Sam Richardson quit their jobs, found a Brooklyn garage space on Craigslist, and started Other Half Brewing Company in 2012.

When the place started, it was very much a local experience. They were shipping beers out to NYC bars, but if you wanted to get cans of their beer, you had to go to them. Every Saturday morning was new beer, which meant lines out the door to get it. Working like that for their first couple of years, Other Half grew to be what they called a direct-to-customer experience. Even when they opened additional venues in the rest of New York and in Pennsylvania, their intent was to replicate that small brewery, local provider experience. Fortunately for us, they’ve decided to step into the world of big time craft beer, crossing states, and dealing with distributors. That way, we get to try their beer.

The Green City is Other Half’s flagship IPA. Plenty of oats go into the malt bill to make it extra creamy. Brewer Richardson hops it with Citra, Centennial, and Simcoe hops and somehow manages to get the reverse of what you expect. First comes a rush of citrus followed by a touch of juice on the finish. Have this beer cold but not ice cold to get the full lushness of the body.

And, as we said, no need to wait in line to get it.
