Red Wine of the Week

Cellers de Can Suriol
Azimut
Penedés Negre

Normally $19.99 /
Now on Sale for $15.96

40% Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), 20% Garnatxa, 20% Monastrell, 10% Syrah, 10% Samsó (Carignan) (Penedés DO)

How It’s Made:

Cellars de Can Suriol ferments the grapes for this natural red for 20 days in stainless steel tanks (using indigenous yeasts, of course) and then ages the wine for 8-15 months in concrete, allowing it to go through malolactic fermentation. They bottle the wine with very little sulfur, leaving unfined but do run through soft paper to filter out tartaric particles.

Why We Like It:

This is a lovely and luscious full-flavored red that still works in warm weather. The acid brightens the tannins that sit under its dark fruit and lifts the whole wine up to be much brighter than you’d expect.

White Wine of the Week

Chéreau-Carré
Château de Chasseloir
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie

Normally $21.99 /
Now on Sale for $17.96
100% Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet Sèvre et Maine)

How It’s Made:

Chasseloir’s vines range from 35 to 120 years old. The sustainably farmed Melon de Bourgogne for this wine comes from relatively young vines (average 40 years old). After fermentation, Chéreau-Carré ages the wine on lees for six to nine months.

Why We Like It:

This Loire Valley white is charming! You still have the touch of minerality that should be a staple of Muscadet Sévre et Maines, and that’s great. At the same time, the fruit really presents itself. They balance nicely. One of us on tasting this wine said, “This is type of wine I could drink all summer long!”

Beer of the Week

Sierra Nevada
Hoptimum

Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (12 oz bottle six-pack)
Triple IPA (11% ABV)

How It’s Made:

Sierra Nevada makes the 2024 Hoptimum from 2-Row Pale malts and White Wheat malts that they bitter with Chinook, Citra, CTZ, Ekuanot, Idaho 7, and Magnum hops.

Why We Like It:

We’re not going to lie. This is a big beer … but it’s one of the great big beers! And holy smokes, is it smooth! The loads of malt give it that slight syrupy malt sweetness that lets the hops slowly build on your palate as you drink it. It’s such a wonderful blast from the past as few people build shrines to worship the Hop like this anymore. Go, Sierra Nevada!
