White Wine of the Week
Xanadu
Circa 77
Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
Normally $23.99 /
Now on Sale for $18.96
70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon (Margaret River Region)
Where It’s From:
Sitting in the southwest corner of the peninsula that is Australia’s Western Australia wine region, the Margaret River sub-region is known for producing European style wines. Though farther south than Bordeaux, it has a similar climate due to the tempering influence of the Pacific Ocean. So, it’s no surprise to find Xanadu sustainably growing Bordeaux white grapes Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon there.
Why We Like It:
One, Xanadu Wines looks to have a sincere dedication to sustainability. Two, you get a clear, crisp expression of both the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. It totally succeeds as what it is — a fresh, drink now, enjoy now white.
Red Wine of the Week
Lionel Osmin
Pied de Perdrix
Normally $20.99 /
Now on Sale for $16.96
Pied de Perdrix (Comté Tolosan IGP)
What It’s Made Of:
Pied de Perdrix translates to “Partridge Foot.” (We think it’s a reference to how the grapes hang in their clusters.") Lionel Osmin and Company in southwest France have dedicated themselves to uncover forgotten vineyards and local grapes. This grape certainly qualifies. A cousin of Malbec, people frequently refer to it as France’s “forgotten grape.”
Why We Like It:
In this, one of the only Pied de Perdrix wines around, you get the lush fruit of a Malbec with earthy notes mixed with subtle tannins and quiet acidity. Who doesn’t love a “forgotten grape” wine that’s actually good? This wine is a longtime favorite of the shop, and you can see why.
Beer of the Week
Hop Butcher for the World
Your Wish Is Granted
Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $15.96 (16.9 oz can four-pack)
Double New England Style IPA (7.5% ABV)
How It’s Made:
Chicago’s Hop Butcher for the World makes this hazy, juicy DIPA using Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops.
Why We Like It:
Citra and Nelson Sauvin are such an interesting pair. Citra gives you your citrus notes, but where other Australian hops would cut those flavors with juiciness, Nelson Sauvin, with its white wine notes, doesn’t as much cut as sidle up to the Citra and create a compelling pair. This beer is a quieter hazy DIPA that lends itself more to sipping that quaffing, and we’re down for it.
