White Wine of the Week
New Dawn
White Blend
Normally $23.99 /
Now on Sale for $19.96
Chenin Blanc, Rousanne, Verdelho (Western Cape AOC)
What It Is:
Rüdger van Wyk is a black South African winemaker in the Western Cape dedicated to making low intervention wine to celebrate his country’s “ancient soils and vibrant culture.” Using grapes from regenerative farmed vineyards, he makes his White and Red Blends to be the type of wines that his parents could never find — good wines at a price point that they could afford. He ferments the grapes with their native yeasts and lets the wine sit for three months on lees.
Why We Like It:
This wine is a rush of layered fruit, where its time on lees spins in a beguiling creaminess. Bright acid on the finish keeps the whole project in line. This is a white made for food and time with family and/or friends.
Cascina Bongiovanni
Salú
Langhe Rosso
Normally $18.99 /
Now on Sale for $14.96
Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Barbera (Langhe DOC)
How It’s Made:
Cascina Bongiovanni sits in northern Italy’s Langhe region, in the heart of the Barolo sub-region, and they farm using biodynamic principles. They make this blend out of their Nebbiolo for its deep earthiness, Pinot Noir to lighten things up, and Barbera for a little zip!
Why We Like It:
This red is beautifully balanced and complex. It was a hit at our recent Bongiovanni tasting, so we just felt like we had to feature it.
Beer of the Week
Center of the Universe
Oktoberfest
Normally $13.99 /
Now on Sale for $9.96 (16.9 oz can four-pack)
Märzen Style Lager (5.7% ABV)
How It’s Made:
Ashland, Virginia’s Center of the Universe Brewing Company makes this Oktoberfest offering with German Munich and Vienna malts, which they ferment with a Czech yeast strain. They then bitter the wort with German noble hops and leave the whole thing unfiltered.
Why We Like It:
The sweetness of the malt gives this Märzen a fruity taste that muscles up against the German hops to battle things out. While that battle takes place, the lightness conveyed by the Czech malt spars with the texture conveyed by the beer being unfiltered. This brew is a chance to get an Oktoberfest with some fight to it.
