Hazy Double IPA

Civil Society is based in Jupiter, FL, just above West Palm Beach. It’s the creation of cousins Karl and Chris Volstad and Karl’s high school friend, Evan Miller. Karl Volstad and Miller (who had started homebrewing in the aughts) had gone to school in the area and liked it in spite of — at the time — distribution laws that no sane person should stand. Still and all, the trio opened shop in 2015 and set out sharing their love of hop forward beers with the public.

The Got ‘Em Tie-Dyes is a Double IPA made with barley and wheat. The wheat could be there to help promote the haze (and this brew is pretty hazy) or it could be there to lighten the malt bill to really let the hops pop or both — and there are a lot of hops to pop — Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Sabro, Citra and Citra Cryo hops.

With the double dip into the Citra world, the Got ‘Em has a healthy citrus side. However, sharing time is a light sprinkling of fruit notes — mango, even passion fruit. There’s a delightful haze that takes it just to the edge of creamy. Yet, for a double IPA, it remains surprisingly refreshing.
