To the Green and Be … Barbera!

Based in New Jersey, Opici Wines & Spirits is a fourth-generation importer which has been working in the wine business since 1913. Run today by Don Opici, it commands a portfolio of over 50 wines spanning 10 countries. For generations, though, Italian wines have been their foundation. This foundation is what took them to the town of Pavia, 15 miles south of Milan, and to the family who would make Alverdi wines.

Opici “reimagined” this family’s holdings into the production of wines made from sustainably farmed organic grapes. To reinforce this focus, they chose the name “Alverdi,” which means “To the Green.”

The Alverdi Barbera is bold and bountiful. The fruit sits on the tannins like blackberries on a bed of greens. It has the medium body that you want in a Barbera without sacrificing character.

This wine is very food friendly. Have it with an evening mushroom and chive omelette or with a mediterranean salad … or just order some good pizza, relax and enjoy. Yum!
