One of the pleasant developments of the Hazy IPA phenomenon is how it’s inspired craft brewers to rethink other styles. The no-brainer, of course, is stretching the haze craze to the American Pale Ale. What more fun way to jazz up this often overlooked style than to leave it unfiltered?

From Richmond, Ardent’s Cosmic Pale Ale is a medium-bodied unfiltered Pale Ale with a light malt backbone. Ardent then throws in the fun time hops (Citra, Mosaic, and Cashmere) for both bittering and dry-hopping — triple dry-hopping actually.

The result is a lemon/grapefruity citrus bomb. Yet, all that flavor quickly drops away to a dry finish. Taking its cues from IPAs, it remains a refreshing APA at heart.
