Bricco dei Tati is a family run estate in the heart of the Langhe region of Italy’s Piemonte region … but it’s not your normal Italian winemaking family.
Taking up little more than three acres on a hillside across the valley from the village of Barbaresco, the property has an early 1800’s farmhouse, a cantina and cellar dug out of the hill directly beneath it, and a vineyard with some vines that are almost as old as the house. In 2006 co-founders of Virginia based importer/distributor Siema Wines, Emanuele Gaiarin (from the Veneto) and Mary Beth Gaiarin (from Washington D.C.), bought the property. The former owners and their ancestors had been growing organic Dolcetto and Barbera there for as long as anyone could remember. The Gaiarins instituted sustainable farming practices and now spend part of the year here running their importer business and part of the year in their Piemontese farmhouse overseeing their vineyard.
For this wine, Bricco dei Tati takes their organic Barbera grapes and removes the juice from the skins immediately after pressing. This rapid separation allows them to develop a bright, fresh rosé. Strawberry/cherry notes roll through the wine with just a touch of tannin on the finish. It’s the perfect affordable rosé whether you’re in northern Italy or Northern Virginia ( … or right here!)
