Our latest beer from Richmond’s The Veil Brewing Company is the Thorn — a pale lager brewed with spelt and bittered with Perle and Motueka hops.

The Thorn is aptly named since the spelt gives this otherwise biscuity, honey-tinged lager a little bite, a welcome bit of a tart edge. Adding the New Zealand hop Motueka to the German Perle hops blends in some lime notes to make the spelt tang stand out even more (but not too much).

So, the Thorn starts as a basic lager but then takes a couple of turns to make it unique.
