Boy, Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, MO sure has fun with its barrel-aging … and we have fun with how much fun they have. If our fun helps make it fun for them, then it’s kind of a sustaining fun cycle, and you certainly don’t see a lot of those. :)

The Plaid Habit is an Imperial Brown Ale at its base, double-mashed to be extra rich. Boulevard takes that beer — which is already full of sweet, caramel, biscuity goodness — and ages it for 18 months in “freshly drained” 10 year Canadian Rye Whiskey barrels. Uh … okay! So, now you get the teasingly tangly notes of the rye whiskey on the edge of the super rich brown ale.

Truth, be told, it’s in the same flavor family as last week’s Dragon’s Milk Triple Mash, though not as big. So, if you were scared away by the Dragon’s Milk 18.7% ABV, we have a thoroughly respectable 11.9%’er right here!
