Hazy IPA
Grimm Artisanal Ales says of their hazy IPA Underwater Sunlight, “it’s like summertime in a can.” Maybe for this most recent release they were going for a “much needed breath of summer in the middle of winter” vibe. Too bad the Global Warming Climate Apocalypse is in full swing (or is it full spring?), and it’s going to be in the low 50s for the first part of our week. Heck, even in Grimm’s Brooklyn, it starts out in the high 40s. Oh well, this beer is a citrusy treat whatever the weather is.
Grimm bitters the Underwater Sunlight with Citra, Cashmere, Colombus, and Nectaron hops. Nectaron is a New Zealand hop developed by (you guessed it) New Zealand Plant & Research. It works really well as an aroma hop, imparting plentiful tropical fruit aromas. However, the other trio of hops are from the American Pacific Northwest, so look for a lot of citrus flavor in this brew, especially from the Cashmere, which lives to dump lemon notes in your beer.
This brew wants you to be in “the Now,” as, like your first dive into a pool, it’s all about the rush at the front with very little finish.
